    Responsible Travel Policy

    CARBON REDUCTION

Human powered transport is at the heart of our trips at rideawaybikepacking. Once guests have safely arrived here in Grantown on Spey all planned transport is by bike.

Guests are asked about their dietary choices/needs pre-trip. Produce is sourced from a local wholefood store which specialises in vegan ingredients and meals that can be taken away for use on our bikepacking trip.

All food used on our guided bikepacking weekends is sourced from local businesses, eg. farm-shop butcher, local wholefood store, a microbrewery here in Grantown on Spey and small fruit & veg shop in the village.

    ENVIRONMENT AND WILDLIFE

All guests of rideawaybikepacking are encouraged to participate in the Introduction to Leave No Trace online course from Leave No Trace, Ireland either before or after their trip. This educates us all about the huge responsibility and of course enjoyment we can have when in the outdoors.

All rideawaybikepacking guides are from the local community here in The Cairngorm National Park. Your guide will be knowledgeable about the flora & fauna of the area and importantly, will know how to find the answers to any questions you might have about the environment and wildlife.

    LOCAL ECONOMY

The properties used by, or recommended by rideawaybikepacking are all locally owned.

As mentioned earlier all of our supplies and provisions are sourced from local businesses here in Grantown on Spey, or Nethy Bridge. We also visit the local art gallery or bookstore on guided day rides, or if time allows on our guided bikepacking weekends, eg. the Spey Bank Studio or The Bookmark.

    EMPLOYMENT, INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY

Jim Sutherland, your guide lives right here in Grantown on Spey where your trip starts!

Two of the main local suppliers that we use have a clear diversity strategy of employment without regard to race, gender or sexual orientation or nationality.

Once a week Jim volunteers along with other locals to lead pupils on bike rides after school

    OUR GUESTS

All guests of rideawaybikepacking will have the opportunity to talk through their wants and needs before making a booking. They will not be expected to simply fit into a scheduled trip-type or join an open-group. This does not create a unique, memorable, safe and enjoyable experience for any of us!

Once your booking has been confirmed all payments made to rideawaybikepacking will be held in our protected account until after your trip. This ensures that if anything unforeseen happens and your planned trip cannot go ahead you will receive a full refund, no questions asked. It’s what Jim would expect if he was a guest making a booking.
